It was two days full of jammed fingers, one-handed grabs, and touchdowns. Many, many touchdowns as the inaugural Rockville Athletics Sports League (RASL) Tournament of Champions flag football event took place this past weekend (12/17 and 12/18) at the Germantown Soccerplex in good ol’ Boyds, Maryland.
One item that we would have wished were in abundance were hand warmers as temperatures dipped into the 30’s as eight teams, who have all been winners or runners-up in past RASL Seasons, competed for the title as one of the best co-ed flag football teams in the DC Metro area.
Come Sunday of the event, NTA, Feel Maow, Kai, and Team Scoop were the last ones remaining. Many were expecting Capital Punishment to win the entire event, however the absence of their quarterback for the majority of group play cost them to miss the playoffs by just one point.
Then there were two – NTA and Feel Maow had advanced to the finals. As the two teams clashed, the sun decided to poke its warm, yellow head out. However, because the sun is the biggest tease known to man, it was short lived and play resumed in near freezing temperatures. We were even graced with our first snowfall as a few flurries came down. In the end, NTA were too strong for Feel Maow as they won with a final score of 28-6. NTA’s own David Kelly was awarded the MVP trophy for the event.
Overall, it was a tremendous event put on by RASL, the well-organized, competitive flag-football league based out of Rockville, Maryland. Registration for the winter session is still open, so head over to playrasl.com!
